Need Your Help!

I'm looking for a new skin regime. Something somewhat affordable but amazing for my skin. Here's my skin care back story -

I was using all Decleor products because that's what we sold at the spa I used to work at in college. It was more affordable for me because I got a major discount. I've been trying to keep up with using those products but my wallet (and hubby) didn't like it. So I decided to try something new - the Philosophy skin care line - and at first it was ok but lately (the past couple of months) I've notice my skin break out a lot more frequently. I thought at first it was because I went off birth control (no I'm not pregnant nor do I plan to be any time soon) and my hormones were out of whack but then I read Lyndsy's post at Yellow Brick Blog about it doing the same thing.

I've decided its time to change my skin care regime again. So I need your help - what's your skin care regime? I need your recommendations!!

I've just started using Alba products after reading about them on a blog (can't remember which one!). They smell divine and are easy to pick up at Target. The cleanser is especially awesome. Plus they have travel sizes so you can try them before you really commit. I used to use Origins but it became a prohibitively expensive habit, and I discovered that I was allergic to some of the fruit acids in a couple of the products. Alba has been a great substitute and doesn't make me breakout. Good luck!

My skin care is all over the place but I swear by Neutrogena's Oil Free Cream Cleanser. My skin is so fantastic. Then I use Bobbi Brown's Refining Toner (which is the expensive part) but there's no alcohol and doesn't dry me out. And finally the Everyday moisterizer with SPF 15 from Estee Lauder. I know the last two parts are pricey, but the Cleanser is amazing. I've turned so many people on to it who have all different types of skin.

My skincare regimen would probably make you cringe. I basically just wash with facial soap and wear SPF moisturizer. Luckily, I don't break out very often unless I use something that my skin is allergic to (it's very sensitive). The only thing I would suggest is, if you can get away with it, not wearing any foundation. I think it tends to clog pores and cause more trouble than it's worth. Pressed powder usually works nicely as an alternative, although if you use too much it will probably have the same negative effects as foundation. If you just put it on your trouble spots, it'll do away with shine and add smoothness in a way that foundation can't do.

I have used Mary Kay for years. I absolutely recommend their products, but to be fair, I am also a Mary Kay consultant, so I might be biased! Regardless, the number one thing a dermatologist would tell you to take care of your skin is to stick to one brand line from cleanser to foundation. Companies spend millions of dollars each year researching how their products can work best together, but they don't test them with other brands so you might get negative results from the combination of two brands. Also, make sure you use a brand that has skin care for different skin types. Most the drug store brands only play toward the most oily skin and the people with normal or dry skin have to deal with the harsh side-effects.

I promise to post on this next week! I am sorry you had to go through the breakout phase with the philosophy products. I am sorry that it took me so long to figure out that was the culprit. When I returned it to Sephora and complained the lady said that A LOT of people claimed that was a problem.

I have been using the Clinique 3-Step Skin System for 3 years and I very rarely ever have a breakout. I use the Liquid Soap for Oily Skin, the Clarifying Lotion in 2, and the Dramatically Different Moisteroizing Gel. I also use their Total Turn Around Concentrate Skin Serum as well...but only at night. It seems to work well for my skin.

I have really sensitive, breakout-prone skin as well, and I have found the brands that I will use for the rest of my life! I am a huge believer in chemical and fragrance free products. I've tried everything else, and these work the best. The first brand is called Collective Wellbeing, and you can find them at Whole Foods Markets or other healthy stores. you can also buy online at collectivewellbeing.com. I use their Cleansing Clay or the Cleansing Paste. Both are amazing and use only natural ingredients. My skin has never been clearer or more radiant. It's awesome. They also have really good moisturizers. The prices are pretty dang reasonable for what you get. The other brand is called Mychelle Dermaceuticals, and I use them mostly for masks and treatment products. Their Pumpkin peel is one of the most amazing products I've ever used. I notice a difference after the first time using it. Also their pumpkin renewal cream is my favorite night cream. They can also be found at WF Markets or health stores, or online at MychelleUSA.com.

Okay enough rambling...I've had such problem with my skin and have finally found my routine, so I love to share :) Whatever you end up using, hope it helps!

Being a beauty blogger, I have a few suggestions...

If you want affordable and natural, try Kiss My Face Potent & Pure Collection.

If you have a Clarisonic, use a simple cleanser like Avalon Vitamin C Refreshing Cleansing Gel. It's cheap and works really well.

If you like to exfoliate, I highly recommend Emerita Microdermabrasion Face Scrub. One jar will last 6 months with regular use.

I have normal to oily skin and have tried a lot of products. Those have been my favorites! You can also try Korres.

I don't recommend Olay or Neutrogena.

Let me know if you have any questions about the products, I'd be happy to help!
