I am still struggling to find a favorite skin care routine. I've decided I am going to go ahead and buy the Clarisonic (thank you for all of the feedback) and I can't wait to see what the results are going to be. Unfortunately, I haven't found all the other things I need for my skin. InStyle recently posted an article about how to get good skin at any age. I looked at the 30s section (since I'm 27 I figure I'm closer to 30 than 20) and I think I might try the products they recommend. I like that there is a mix of expensive and inexpensive products.
The day routine they recommend -
• Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser, $8.
• Skinceuticals Phloretin CF, $150.
• Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating lotion SPF 50.
Night routine recommendations include -
• Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle Moisture Night, $19.
• Laura Mercier Purifying Oil Rich cleanser, $40.
• Lancôme Génifique, $78.
And the "secret weapon" is the Clarisonic which I will be buying soon.
I haven't fully decided if I'm going to try this routine because I have a dermatologist appointment next month so I might just wait and see what he recommends. This is so frustrating. I just wish I could find something that I love. I've found favorites in all other aspects of my beauty routine...why is skin care so difficult.

Skin care is tricky! I found I have the best luck w/a "foamy" cleanser w/the Clarisonic. I used the Aveeno Calming foamy face wash for about 9 months but recently switched to the Clean 'n Clear wash. I realized I could just mix 1/2 water and 1/2 cleanser in my old Aveeno bottle and I'd get the same results and save a ton of cash. I really can mix it 1/4 cleanser and 3/4 water and it'll work great.
I have used the Olay sensitive skin cleanser but it really doesn't work well w/the Clarisonic for some reason.
Good luck!
I don't have a Clarisonic yet, but I hit the jackpot with Guinot skincare line, which I use morning and night! Good luck finding something that works for you! It's tough cause no two faces are the same, are they?!?!
I need a good toner!!! suggestions?? xxxooo
i went the H2o route and it has been so great! https://www.h2oplus.com
their stuff is all natural, not harsh at all. they have tons of different lines for different needs. and it's pretty middle of the road as far as price goes.
good luck!
Have you tried Paula's choice? I've had incredible success with it and have gifted it to many of my friends and family who have all fallen in love with it too. It's relatively inexpensive and has an excellent gurantee!
I am 13 years older than you and still have skin issues. I am constantly on the lookout for something new. I totally understand your frustration!
I would wait to purchase too much until after your appointment. I have heard that Olay beat out all of the expensive brands on Consumer Reports though.
I wish you the best of luck on your search! I just turned 31 and seriously it IS the most frustrating thing ever - you'd think by now skin care would be easy! I just had my dermatologist appointment this morning after being prescribed Ziana for the last few months (with absolutely horrible results), now I'm getting an oral medication to try -- needless to say the regular drugstore soaps don't cut it either. I swear my acne was never *that* bad to begin with! Here's hoping you find what works for you!
everyones skin is different so what works for others, may not work for someone else. I went and got a facial not long ago and bought the stuff they used on my face (SKAM) because it didnt work as well. So i recently started to use Garnier products and i love it. I use cleanser and a moistorizer and at night i use an anti aging wash/lotion. So far so good
Hi Christina! Robin Maidman, a former school mate from high school, informed me that you had this great blog! I just wanted to say that I am really looking forward to reading your posts. Robin assured me this was a good blog to follow!
Best,
Maggie
you know what's funny? about 2 years ago i decided i needed to move away from my college skin care routine, and buy some expensive and more "adult" like skin care products. i tried everything - including proactive, and my skin just kept getting worse. last week, i decided to go back to my good old clearsil face wash and clean n' clear lotion and guess what? my skin is flawless again. more expensive does not always = better skin!
I can help sweets! Feel free to email me any questions- but a lot of it is trial & error since everyone has different issues. This list sounds pretty good. Try Skin Ceuticals amazing new Retexturizing serum- at $70 it's less of an investment & still great for a 27 yr old's skin. That was you can see if you'll be consistent & then can buy the big dog.
