Book Review - Domestic Affairs
I finished reading this book a few weeks ago but have been forgetting to write about it. My MIL gave me Domestic Affairs for my birthday and I was excited to read it because the description was very intriguing. And the book didn't disappoint. It was the perfect pool read (I read it three pool visits). The story is about true friendship, betrayal, and romance - everything you need for a perfect chick lit book. It takes so unexpected twists and turns that definitely keep you engaged and wanting more. Here's a little summary of the book (thanks to Amazon) -
It begins with a betrayal that tears apart childhood friends, Abigail and Lila, when Abigail’s mother, the housekeeper for Lila’s wealthy family, is summarily banished, casting Abigail from the only home she has ever known. Now, twenty-five years later, Abigail is a self-made successful cookbook author and TV personality. When Lila, who married well and for decades lived the glittering life of a Park Avenue socialite, suffers a tragic reversal of fortune, she seeks out the help of her childhood friend. Penniless and all but unemployable, Lila approaches Abigail about a job, and Abigail gives her one: as her housekeeper.
But revenge is not as sweet as Abigail had imagined. Lila’s reentry into Abigail’s life brings along some unexpected complications and questions: Will Abigail be reunited with her girlhood love, Lila’s twin brother, Vaughn? Will Concepción, the grief-stricken mother whose daughter perished in the fire that consumed Abigail’s factory, succeed in tracking Abigail down and confronting her about her daughter’s death? Will Lila ever find love in the wake of her husband’s suicide?
In this sweeping emotional tale, Abigail, Lila, and Concepción are thrown together and forced to unite in order to save one another...and themselves.

Restaurant Review - Grapeseed Bistro

This weekend my friend Lisa and I decided to take advantage of Bethesda Restaurant Week. We ate at Grapeseed Bistro and it was sooo delicious. Seriously, everything we ate was fantastic. To start, I had the field green salad with their homemade sherry vinaigrette (yummy) and Lisa had the organic tomato salad with basil and corn (AMAZING - and I don't even like tomatoes). For our main course we each got a fish dish - scallops (perfect seared crust) and rockfish (so flaky and delicious). And then for dessert I got the trio of sorbets (so refreshing) and Lisa got the blueberry crisp (amazingly good - and again I don't even like blueberries). To wash everything down we had a bottle of Sokol Blosser Evolution 12th Edition -- Oregon (Riesling-Pinot Gris..). Great bottle of wine - very refreshing, not to sweet. Service was also very good. Very attentive but not over bearing. The clientele was much older than I expected. We had an 8;15 reservation and I was surprised at how many people over 65 were there. It wasn't a bad thing, I was just surprised there weren't more people my age.

Favorite Thing #174 - Finipil
Favorite Thing #174 - Finipil is a miracle cream for preventing pimples after getting waxed. When I wax my upper lip I would ALWAYS get several white head pimples afterwards but then I started using this immediately after (and for a few days following) on the waxed area and it almost eliminated them. It's so amazing. It's an odorless cream that has a slight tingle when applied...I know then it's working. Here's some information about the product from the website-"Antibacterial - Antimicrobial PATENTED finipil is an amazing after hair removal treatment. It protects against ingrown hairs, kills 99.9% of germs, protects the empty hair follicle, shrinks pore size and has been proven to actually slow down hair growth... which means you'll need hair removal treatments less frequently!!!!!!"
Still love and religiously watch Favorite Thing #74 - Gossip Girl. This is probably the only TV show that I try and watch live. They are filming the new season now, I can't wait for it to air. UPDATE - NEW SEASON STARTS SEPT. 14th!!!
