I am still struggling to find a favorite skin care routine. I've decided I am going to go ahead and buy the Clarisonic (thank you for all of the feedback) and I can't wait to see what the results are going to be. Unfortunately, I haven't found all the other things I need for my skin. InStyle recently posted an article about how to get good skin at any age. I looked at the 30s section (since I'm 27 I figure I'm closer to 30 than 20) and I think I might try the products they recommend. I like that there is a mix of expensive and inexpensive products.
The day routine they recommend -
• Aveeno Positively Radiant cleanser, $8.
• Skinceuticals Phloretin CF, $150.
• Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating lotion SPF 50.
Night routine recommendations include -
• Neutrogena Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle Moisture Night, $19.
• Laura Mercier Purifying Oil Rich cleanser, $40.
• Lancôme Génifique, $78.
And the "secret weapon" is the Clarisonic which I will be buying soon.
I haven't fully decided if I'm going to try this routine because I have a dermatologist appointment next month so I might just wait and see what he recommends. This is so frustrating. I just wish I could find something that I love. I've found favorites in all other aspects of my beauty routine...why is skin care so difficult.

Small Details Make Such a Difference
I recently got towels for our half bath monogrammed. Here's the result. They are cream colored towels with brown/bronze stitching. I'm very happy with the results. Just this small detail really put a personal touch on our bathroom. What do you think? Sorry the picture quality sucks because I took the picture with my blackberry.
Weekend Recap and Menu Monday
This weekend was very low key so low key that I don't have any pictures to share. Our friends Shannon and David spent the weekend with us. Friday night we made homemade pizzas and Shannon and I got ready for the yard sale. Saturday morning was the neighborhood yard sale. I wanted to get pictures of the before and after but as we were setting our stuff up people were trying to buy. It was so busy that I didn't get a chance. Overall it was very successful and between the two of us we made over $150! That night we ended up staying in for dinner and grilled some yummy Omaha Steaks because the Penn State game was on. Sunday was football day. It was a split day in our house - my team (Eagles) won and Hubby's team (Steelers) did not.
Here's this week's menu. Nothing too exciting because Hubby's gone Tuesday night and I'm heading to Morgantown Thursday night for the WVU vs. Colorado game.
Monday - Tuna sandwiches and side salad
Tuesday - Grilled cheese sandwich and side salad
Wednesday - Happy Hour at Rio Grande
Thursday - Mario's Fishbowl for dinner and fishbowl beers
Friday - Halibut, potatoes, and corn
Saturday - Planning on going to Tragara since we didn't go last week

Is it worth it?
A lot of the bloggers I follow rave about the Clarisonic. I've been wanting to try it because everyone raves about it. So why didn't I get it? I just couldn't see myself spending that much money. Well lately my skin has been a hot mess so I've been really thinking about getting it. And I just returned two Philosophy products that reacted poorly with my skin so I have about $100 in credit. So my question is...Is it worth it and can I just get the brush or do I need the whole set?

Thrifty Thursday
When Hubby and I revised our budget months and months ago we both agreed that I was spending WAY TOO much money at Starbucks. I was seriously getting a Venti Latte almost everyday and that adds up. So we agreed that I would get a budget of $30 each month. At the beginning of each month I go to the Starbucks in my building at get a $30 gift card. When the $$ runs out on the gift card no more lattes till the next month. This has definitely helped us save cash and I make coffee at home a lot more.

More great things at Rue La La
I wasn't sure what to expect from today's Metrokane Rue La La boutique but I was plesantly surprised. They have a lot of really cute wine and bar accessories. I got this super cute flip top cocktail shaker for when Hubby makes me martini's.
There are also great rabbit wine openers. They make great gifts, I gave them out as Christmas gifts last year. Definitely head to Rue La La to check out this boutique.
Rue La La is a By-Invitation-Only Sample Sale site. Click Here to sign up using my personal invitation link. This link will grant you immediate access to the site after you sign up. (FYI - If you just sign up the regular way you will just be put on the waiting list.)

To buy or not to buy...
I wanted this skirt from Banana Republic before it went on sale...and now it's on sale for almost half the original cost. And for the next 48 hours BR is offering 20% off purchases $75 or more (online only). I just can't seem to pull the trigger on getting it. What do you think?
UPDATE - I bought the skirt and this shirt. Both items were on sale and I got 20% off. I didn't pay shipping and I had a $10 gift card. I went through Ebates and got 8% cash back. Woo Hoo!

A Wild and Wonderful Weekend in West Virginia
This past weekend Hubby and I traveled to Charleston, WV for my friend Jeff's wedding. It's was a blast. We left Friday morning with a full car (my two friends from college joined us). We decided to make a pit stop in Morgantown since it was on the way. We ate at one of my favorite places there The Boston Beanery and then picked up some WVU gear.
The wedding was so much fun and it was so exciting to be with my friends from college again. Here are a few pictures from the weekend.

I've been under the weather and actually stayed home from work yesterday. I still don't feel 100% but I have to eat...right. Hubby's out of town this week so the menu isn't as yummy as it usually is. It's not fun cooking for one.

Tuesday - Turkey Club Sandwiches, Side Salad
Wednesday - Dinner with my friend Robin
Thursday - Roast Chicken, Side of Garlic/Olive Oil Pasta, Cucumber Salad
Friday - Probably order in since we need to get ready for the garage sale on Saturday

Thrifty Thursday
Check with your bank and see if they have a rewards program for its debit cards....mine does!
My bank, Wachovia, has a free rewards program for it's debit cards called Wachovia Possibilities Rewards. It's a point system like Target, you get a certain number of points for each purchase and then those points add up and you are eligible to "cash them in" for retail gift cards, Visa gift cards, products, etc. Since signing up a couple years ago, I've gotten a few $50 gift cards to Banana Republic...for free...and I'm close to getting another one. And I signed Hubby's card up too...too bad I can't use his points as well for Banana gift cards.
I use my debit card ALL the time so this is the perfect, hassle free way to earn extra money for my shopping habit. :)

Love it when J.Crew has 20% off
Last week, I took advantage of J.Crew's 20% off Final Sale and picked up two shirts. Did anyone else take advantage of it? If so, what did you get.
Really loving this cotton-cashmere sweater. It's sooo soft. I went with a color I normally don't wear - spicy olive - and I LOVE it. I'm trying to go outside of my normal colors - black, white, kelly green, etc. This sweater is still available online in the color I got, along with others.
I love this shirt. It's different and looks so cute with a pair of black pants. Perfect outfit for work during this weird weather transition. It is still available online but only in the color shadow.
Be sure to follow me on Twitter because I'm trying to tweet my "outfit of the day" each morning.
Also, check out my friends items for sale on ebay. Very cute and great prices! Click here.

My Boots Came!!!
And I love love love them...EXCEPT...I'm breaking a sweat trying to put them on and off. They don't have a zipper so it's not that easy to put them on or take them off. Before I give up, any helpful tips on how to put them on easier?
My shoes broke!
I'm so pissed. My shoes (Favorite Thing #79) broke today...both of them. The heels just bent over. Here are two pictures I took with my blackberry.
I'm so devastated. I'm going to take them to the shoe guy and see if he can fix them but I think they might be too damaged. I tried to find a replacement pair but I can't find my size. The smallest size I've found is a 6.5 and I need a 6. However I did find a similar style. Check out these at Zappos.

Weekend Recap
This weekend was a nice, relaxing, low key one. Friday night Hubby and I just stayed in. Saturday, my FIL was in town and stayed with us. I cooked and cleaned all day preparing for Sunday's party. Sunday was the start of the NFL season so we had our annual party. There was a yummy feast - homemade meatball sandwiches, Mexican Dip (thanks Erin), Pepperoni Cups (recipe to come, thanks Robin), Sopapilla Cheesecake (Favorite Thing #58), and all kinds of other fun snacks. The Eagles won (but Donovan McNabb got hurt) and I got to hang with my nephew so I was a happy camper. Didn't take very many pictures. Here are a couple...

I'm a lucky girl...
...because I won this great giveaway from KT's Sassy Blog. I was so excited when I came home from work today and it was sitting waiting for me. I won a great eye shadow duo from Smashbox and Tarte mascara. Can't wait to try these products out. Thanks KT!
Favorite Thing #181 - Bright, Bold, and Beautiful Blog and Etsy Shop
I can't remember how I discovered Bright, Bold and Beautiful but I'm so glad that I did. This blog features all different Etsy sellers. She features sellers that have jewelry, clothing, housewares, etc. I've found so many adorable things for myself and gifts because of her site. She does the research for me! You definitely should add her to your reader. Not only does she have a fabulous blog but she is an Etsy seller as well. She's a very talented water color artist. Check out her amazing stuff here. I've had my eye on this piece.
and I also love this one.
Unfortunately, Favorite Thing #81 got canceled. I loved this show. Oh well at least I still have Gossip Girl.

I found brown boots!!!
Thanks to Chole over at The Chole Conspiracy for helping me find these super cute boots! She posted an outfit of hers a few days ago with these boots on and I fell in love and had to have them. They are Frye boots so I knew they wouldn't be cheap. But I also remembered that Kayla commented on my post about needing boots how amazing Frye's are. I decided to check on ebay to see what I might find and sure enough the exact boots, brand new, my size were calling my name. I was the only one who bid on them till 2 minutes before the auction ended. After a fierce bidding war I got these $350 boots for under $250! I'm sooo excited. I can't wait for them to get here. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that they look super cute.

Thrifty Thursday
Hubby and I decided to open a Target credit card when we bought our Dyson vacuum cleaner because we wanted the initial 10% off discount since we were making such a large purchase. I figured we would cancel the card it right after that but we decided to wait a few months and actually use it to see if it would benefit us. And it does, it's a small benefit but I think its worth it because we are saving money. The benefit - frequent 10% off Target coupons. Since opening the card in May, we have gotten two 10% off coupons. How's that possible? Because we do about 95% of our household shopping at our Super Target.
They way the card works is you get one point for every dollar you spend at Target (or every two dollars you spend somewhere else) when using your Target Visa card. Once you get to 1,00o points you get a 10% off coupon. I save the coupon for a day when I know we are going to have a big trip so we save more money.
This works for us because -
1) We shop at Target so frequently that we would be stupid not to take advantage of a discount
2) Hubby is a great "banker" and keeps strict records so we factor the Target bill into our budget each month so we don't overspend
3) Probably the most important thing - we pay it off each month!
The reason we've been getting the coupons so frequently is because -
1) Anytime we go to Target or the grocery store we put the purchases on the Target card to earn points
2) Any bigger purchases (usually over $100) we put on the Target card to get the points
I recommend this for anyone who fits any of the reasons I listed above.

This weekend Hubby and I went back his hometown to see my in-laws. While we were visiting with my FIL we stopped at Gabriel Brothers. Gabes is like a TJ Maxx but you really have to dig to find stuff. We usually stop there and it is very hit or miss for me. Well this last trip was a definite hit for me. I got some really great pieces at even better prices.
Kimchi Blue Peacoat - $39.99
(this brand is usually sold at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters)
(this brand is usually sold at Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters)
The blazer was probably the best find I had. I'm guessing it retailed for well over $150. I'm so excited to wear it. I also got two things that I didn't take a picture of - a black blazer from Ann Taylor Loft ($9.99) and a pair of tan wool Tahari pants ($19.99) that need altered.
Cute New Shoes!
Last week I was early to meet a friend for dinner so I decided to pop into Zelaya Footwear boutique in Bethesda. I was in need a some new shoes for my cocktail dresses and I wanted to see what they had. They have a great selection and I ended up walking out with two new pairs of shoes.
The first pair are Gwyneth/Princess Gold pumps. These are adorable, peep toe gold pumps. The picture doesn't do these shoes justice. They are sooo cute!!! And there is a cushion at the ball of the shoe for extra support. You can click here to purchase them online.

The second pair of shoes are super fun and cute! They are by Me Too and they are the Jeanette Champagne Satin sling back pump. There is a super fun and have an adorable bow detail at the top. I think I am going to wear these next weekend for a wedding I have to go to in Charleston, WV. Click here to buy these. When writing this blog post, I discovered that these shoes are available for $20 cheaper than what I paid. I'm going to call them later today to hopefully get a $20 refund! I'll keep you posted.
UPDATE - He gave me a check for the difference in the price! Woo Hoo! Definitely going to be shopping there again. Excellent customer service. And I forgot to mention if you become a friend (Tony Zelaya) on Facebook you get 10% everyday!

Favorite Thing #180 - Sugarboo Photobox Frame
Blue Eyed Bride has inspired me to blog about one of my favorite gifts from Hubby. He gave me this Sugarboo Photobox Frame for our first wedding anniversary. I absolutely love it. The words on the frame and the picture from our wedding are just so meaningful. Every time I look at it I just smile. My Hubby is the sweetest! There are so many great frames. I definitely want to get another one when we have a baby (years down the road). Unfortunately you can't buy them online only at their retails. Click here to to email them and they will find a retailer in your area.
Still love and make Favorite Thing #80. Buffalo Chicken Dip is the perfect football watching appetizer. It's a staple at our house when we have football on.
2 cans (10 oz) white chunk chicken
3/4 cup of hot wing sauce2 pkg. (8 oz) cream cheese
1 cup ranch dressing1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Bag of Fritos to serve...or whatever you desireDrain the chicken well, mix chicken and hot sauce on stove top until hot. Add cream cheese, ranch dressing and cheddar cheese. Once mix thoroughly. Serve up with Fritos or whatever you want.

Favorite Thing #179 - Honest Tea's Peach White Tea
I pretty much only drink water (I'm not a big soda drinker) but when I don't I usually drink Honest Tea's Peach White Tea. It's my favorite!!! It's so refreshing and not too sweet. Honest Tea is a local company (out of Bethesda, MD) that was started in 1998. Their products can be found in all the local grocery stores. I have a hard time finding this particular product so I just ordered a case of it from GoodJuice.org and it ended up being cheaper than what I pay in the grocery store.
I still love and wear Favorite Thing #79 - Enzo Angiolini Svieta. I can't wait to break these pumps out when the weather starts to get warm. They are definitely one of my favorites. They are only available at a few places. I found them on Amazon for $49.99 (almost half of what I paid).

Loving this...
...new eye palette from Bobbi Brown. The neutral colors are perfect for me and exactly what I normally wear on my eyes. The eye shadows included in the "nude palette" are Navajo Eye Shadow, Pebble Metallic Eye Shadow, Chino Eye Shadow, Beige Linen Shimmer Wash Eye Shadow, Maple Sugar Metallic Eye Shadow, Caviar Eye Shadow. I've added it to my "want" list for fall. Hopefully there will be a 20% off coupon or something because I just don't like the price ($60).
Great Recipe
At the beach this summer, my sister-in-law Meghan made some yummy cheesy potatoes. She sent me the recipe and I had to share with you. It's too much for me to make for dinner for just Hubby and I so I have to wait till we have people over to make them. The picture above isn't a picture of the potatoes...just a Google Images picture of cheesy potatoes.
Cheesy Picnic Taters
1 bag frozen shredded potatoes--I think it's 32 oz.
1 med onion--i use red onion
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 16 oz sour cream--i use fat free
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese--i use low fat from skim milk
mix all those ingredients together and put in a casserole dish, and top with corn flake crumbs. you are supposed to top the crumbs w tiny pats of butter, but i have a more reduced fat method. i buy actual corn flakes cereal, and put a bunch in my food processor (or blender if u don't have one) with 1-2 teaspoons olive oil, pulse it up, and all the flake crumbs become greased enough that you don't need any butter. bake 40 min covered, then last 20 min uncovered (1 hour total) at 350 degrees.
this recipe is also really good if you replace the shredded frozen taters with "o'rida crispy crowns" --same amount (they are like little disc-sized tater tots, and replace the cornflake-oil crumbs with crushed ritz crackers (make them the same way in the food processor with a tiny bit of oil.
Thanks again Meghan!

Introducing Thrifty Thursday
The past year I've become my conscious of saving money and being thrifty. I don't do that much but I have noticed that the changes that I've made with my spending have made a difference. I thought I would take most Thursdays to share some of my thriftiness with you in what I'm calling Thrifty Thursday.
Today's Thrifty Tip is something that I've blogged about before - EBATES! I absolutely LOVE Ebates because it is FREE MONEY - yes FREE MONEY. It's not exactly like they just send you a check each month, it does require a little work on your part but it's totally worth it. Since signing up at the end of January, I've gotten $143.77 CASH BACK! How did I do it? Online shopping! I do probably about 98% of my shopping online so this is PERFECT for me.
Here's how it works -
Sign up for an Ebates account (send me an email christinasfavoritethings AT gmail DOT com for an invite). You can decide if you want CASH or a GIFT CARD (not sure what stores they are offering now) then just start your online shopping. Search for the store you want to shop at and click on the link. This will link you to that store. Each store has a corresponding percentage of cash back. For example I just ordered if you order from the GAP, you get 2% cash back on your purchase (spend $100, get $2 back). It doesn't seem like much but trust me it adds up. And each purchase is secure. This is directly from the website -
If you want to sign up (and I highly recommend it) send me an email christinasfavoritethings AT gmail DOT com). Another perk is for every person that signs up and uses Ebates to make a purchase you get $5.

The company was founded in 1998 by two Deputy District Attorneys in Silicon Valley who used to prosecute online fraud & identity theft before starting Ebates (so you can be sure we are very into secure online transactions!).I've been doing it for over six months and I've gotten almost $150 back. And this isn't just from my clothes shopping. I got almost all the wedding gifts this year via Ebates, my Snapfish purchases, and Sephora stuff. I can't wait to see how much money I get back with all my Christmas shopping.

It's back!!!!!
Favorite Thing #71 is back at Starbucks. It was back yesterday but I didn't get any because I had already had a Dunkin Donuts coffee. I am however thoroughly enjoying one today....and will be for the rest of the fall/winter. :)
Thanks to Chanel Fashionista for the picture.
Another Great Rue La La Boutique
Rue La La is hitting it out of the park this week, first Ted Baker and now Seven Jeans. I'm looking for one or two new pairs of jeans for this fall/winter and I'm definitely going to be checking Rue La La tomorrow for a new pair of Seven Jeans (one of my favorites). Sales starts at 11am EST and you better believe the good stuff and common sizes will be gone within the first half hour.
Rue La La is a By-Invitation-Only Sample Sale site. Click Here to sign up using my personal invitation link. This link will grant you immediate access to the site after you sign up. (FYI - If you just sign up the regular way you will just be put on the waiting list.)

How I Spent My $300 Gift Card
I did some shopping this weekend and spent my $300 gift card. Thanks for all the suggestions. I hit two stores - Anthropologie and Old Navy and got some great pieces for fall/winter. Here's a rundown.
First up is Anthropologie. I had a dressing room full of clothes and was pretty disappointed in a lot of what I tried on. The Somerset Cape and the Puckered & Pleated Cardigans were disappointing. I did however find three tops that I love (and ironically they are all purple).
First is the Ruffle Tier Tank. It is deep purple racerback tank with ruffles and gold thread detail. It's very flowy and flattering. You can either dress it up or dress it down. I think I will be packing this for a PA trip this weekend.
Next is one of my favorites - Gentle Current Cardigan! I loooove this sweater. It's so comfy and cozy. You can pair it with a long sleeve or short sleeve shirt. I can't wait for the weather to get cooler so I can wear this.

And finally we have this Morning Leaves Cardigan. I love the color palette on this shirt. It's a very flattering cut. I just have a tank underneath which works great.
My other stop on this shopping trip was Old Navy. I had a few casual items I wanted to try on after seeing them online. I was very pleased with what I got and the prices!
This outfit includes two of my purchases - V-Neck, Cableknit Sweater ($12) and Cargo Pants (in navy). These pants are sooo comfy! They will be perfect for hanging out on the weekends or casual Friday. The sweater was too good of a price to pass up and I don't have this color in my sweater collection.
I also got a cute, cotton dress for fall. It's a kelly green color and has three quarter length sleeves. It's going to be perfect for work when the temperature cools down. I can also pair it with a pair of leggings and my ballet flats.
And finally another pair of cargos. This pair is a dark green. I have a lot of cute tops that will go with these pants.
My fall/winter wardrobe is starting to shape up. I'm ready for the weather to start to get cooler. What are some of your favorite fall pieces?
