Guest Favorite Thing - TV Show Dexter

This is actually a favorite thing of mine as well but I thought I would let my hubby do a guest post.

If anyone asks me about MY favorite things, more often than not it will relate to television. Just recently, Christina and I took the advice of several friends and family members and FINALLY gave the show Dexter a shot. Let me tell you something: this is one of the most addictive shows I've ever watched. Here's the skinny: Dexter Morgan is a blood splatter expert for the Miami Metro Police Department. So, alot of the story lines revolve around murder scenes. But wait: this ain't no CSI or Law and Order. The twist with this show is why it's so good. Dexter is a serial killer. Yup. He chops 'em up into little pieces and feeds 'em to the fish. Wait, wait, wait. Let me explain. He is actually a guy that you find yourself rooting for. That's right, you will quickly support his actions because he only kills the bad guys. Now, I don't want to give too much away, but throughout each episode the storyline reveals more and more about Dexter's childhood and the moments that made him who he is. Another highlight of the show is the cast of characters that, in their own right, can carry intersting plots. From the foul-mouth sister to the sex-crazed asian forensic scientist this show keeps you wanting more. My wife and I just finished Season Two. A feat that we accomplished just as fast as NetFlix would send us the DVD's. Season Three just finished airing on Showtime, so we are currently awaiting its release on DVD. This is definitely one of MY favorite things. So go out, get the first two seasons and enjoy!!! Oh, and let it be known that I do NOT condone serial murders.......unless they deserved it.......like most Ravens fans. I kid......I kid.

Guest Favorite Thing - Mimi's Chocolate Pie - 8"

This guest post comes from my dear friend Margaret. It is one of her favorite things ever this time of year: her grandmother's chocolate pie. She says its super easy to make and is always a crowd pleaser.

INGREDIENTS

1 scant cup sugar
3T flour
2T coca
pinch salt
3 eggs, separated (keep egg yolks)
1 large can evaporated milk
1t. butter
1t. vanilla
1 baked pie shell (just use the pre-made Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts and follow those directions)

DIRECTIONS

First, bake your pie crust.

1. Mix sugar, flour and cocoa together with a whisk.
2. Stir in enough milk to dissolve powder.
3. Beat in egg yolks and the rest of the milk.
4. Cook in saucepan on medium heat -- stirring until it thickens (should be smooth - no lumps!) Cut off the heat.
5. Add butter and vanilla and mix it together.
6. Pour into baked pie shell.
7. Top with cool whip or whipping cream.

If you want to make a meringue for the topping (either is good!):

1. Whip 2 egg whites with 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon vinegar.
2. Add 4 Tablespoons of sugar - slowly - as you whip it together.
3. Bake this at 350 until the peaks of the meringue lightly brown. (about 5 - 10 minutes)

**As a general rule you use 2T sugar for every egg white you use. If you increase the amount of egg, proceed accordingly.

Guest Favorite Thing - DirectTV's NFL Sunday Ticket

This guest post comes from my husband...

Anyone who knows me would agree that I am an enormous sports fan. All sports. Football, baseball, hockey, you name it. And those same people would have the same answer to the question "who is Mikey's favorite sports team?" Although I've got loyalties and love for a team in every sport, the answer, without hesitation, is the mighty Pittsburgh Steelers. One problem: I DON'T LIVE IN PITTSBURGH ANYMORE" Now, I'm not here to complain to all of you and moan about my problems (if you really want to know, just ask my wife). I am here to offer a solution to anyone who may be in a similar situation. With that I bring you the GREATEST INVENTION IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND: DirectTV's NFL Sunday Ticket.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you now have the ability....no, the power....no...wait.....the right to watch EVERY NFL GAME there is to offer. No more missing a moment of your favorite team's season. Plus, for you Fantasy Football fans out there, you have access to all of your squad's players. I am in 3 different league's and let me tell you, this service transforms every Sunday into a sports fan's Utopia. But wait.....there's more. For an additional fee, you can get SuperFan.

This lil' piece of heaven gives you the RedZone Channel which automatically switches from game to game, assuring that you don't miss any touchdowns or big plays from around the league. You simply set the remote down and let the TV do all of the work. You also get the GameMix Channel. This shows you eight....yes, eight games at once. When you want to focus in on a particular one, you simply click on it and boom....you are there. You also get Player Tracker which allows you to identify up to 18 players on your Fantasty Football teams and throughout the day, no matter what game you are watching, you will receive scrolling updates on how your team is doing.

I'll leave you all with this. My wife and I subscribe to DirectTV for one reason: The NFL Sunday Ticket. Sure we get a bunch of other stuff....blah blah blah. But this service has changed my life. Just ask my wife. Right honey??? Don't you love watching football for 12 straight hours?? I'll take that silence to mean "yes."

Oh,and one more thing.....GO STEELERS!!!!!

What another blogger loves...

I am traveling for work this week so its difficult for me to post. Here is a favorite thing from one of my favorite blogs - My Wardrobe Today. She loves Zappos! In relation to this post, there was a segment on Oprah with the Zappos CEO who's salary is under $40,000 a year. Gotta love that!

Guest Favorite Thing - Reynolds' Cleverware

Today's guest post is from my cousin-in-law (my husband's cousin's wife) Keri.

An alternative to Christina's post on Tupperware's Rock 'N Serve is one of my favorite things - Reynolds' Cleverware. These containers are very similar to the Tupperware containers because they have a microwave vent too. They are shatterproof, stainproof (spaghetti sauce comes right out!) and microwaveable and dishwasher safe. My husband and I bought ours at Target. We have:

2 – square 1.2 pt.
1 – square 1.5 qt.
1 – square 2.4 qt.
2 – rectangular 1.2 qt.
1 – square 1.1 qt.
1 – square 1.7 qt.

For the 16 pieces (including lids) was roughly about $20.They also sell it in a round set which they didnt have at the time but I might have to purchase. We use them to store leftovers mostly and its nice because the smaller squares are good for bringing lunch in.

Guest Favorite Thing - Tax Free Outlet Shopping

Here is a favorite thing from my friends Brian and Michelle Ray...

Outlet shopping isn't outlet shopping, unless it’s tax-free outlet shopping. The little things do add up. I love the shopping at the Delaware Outlets in Rehobeth Beach. The absolute best time to go is in the winter, where the practically give things away and have a lot of inventory – both hold-over from summer and fall, and new stuff for the winter. It’s best to go in January and February, close to the long weekends, where stores have extra sales. A little known hint…the outlets have clubs (TangerClub in Rehobeth) where you pay $5 or $10, and are entitled to that day’s coupons upon arrival. Just check in at the main office and pick-up your coupons – usually 5% or 10% off, or even monetary amounts. The best thing, you can pick-up a different packet each day!

Be sure to check out Michelle's blog, Our Roads Traveled about her two adorable little boys.
